Itinerary

Volunteer with Children :
What to Expect

This project is the perfect fit for you if you enjoy working with children, and want to support local communities while learning Spanish at the same time. Best of all, you’ll be able to do all this while travelling with the support and guidance of experienced Projects Abroad staff.

This is also a great way to add practical childcare or teaching experience to your CV, which could help your future career. It will help your CV stand out, and give you interesting points to talk about in applications or interviews. You’ll also develop your personal skills, like teamwork, planning, and communication. These skills can be applied to any career you pursue.

You don’t need previous experience, as you’ll never be left alone at your placement. You’ll work with local staff, and your Projects Abroad supervisor will be there to help you if you need it.

This group trip for teenagers runs over fixed dates in the summer, and you can choose the dates that best fit your schedule. It has a set itinerary, so everything you do from the moment you step off the plane has been organised for you. Our staff are there every step of the way to guide you.

Help children learn through play

Your main role will be to help children learn through play. Through fun and educational activities and games, they’ll become more engaged and likely to remember what they’ve learned. You can do things like:

  • Sing a song to teach basic English
  • Practise counting through a numbers game
  • Play a ball game to improve hand-eye coordination
  • Read stories with small groups to improve literacy

Encourage children to practise good hygiene everyday

Hygiene is a very important part of keeping children healthy. As parents and guardians often work long hours, you can help by encouraging kids to practice good hygiene at every opportunity. Remind them to wash their hands after using the bathroom, and before they eat a meal. You can also show them how to thoroughly brush their teeth.

Have Spanish classes with a qualified language teacher

During your time in Argentina, you’ll have intensive Spanish classes everyday for at least three hours. These classes are taught by a qualified language teacher, and they’ll be aimed at your level. So you can join as a complete beginner, or as a teenager who wants to practice having conversations.

Work with volunteers from around the world

You’ll work with teenagers from around the world, and share in this exciting experience abroad. There will be plenty for you to learn from your new friends, like the customs and cultures in their home countries. During social and cultural activities, you will all learn about life in Cordoba together. All of your activities, including your weekend trip, are supervised by Projects Abroad staff.

The main aim of this project is to support the work of dedicated local teachers and caregivers at kindergartens and care centres in Argentina.

The childcare centres we work with in Argentina have limited funding and educational resources. There is also a high ratio of children to teachers, and they need extra pairs of helping hands.

We need your help to give them the support they need. You’ll do this by helping the children learn through play, and working with teachers to make sure the kids are learning the skills they need. This is part of our ongoing efforts to support early childhood education. We also work to improve hygiene levels and raise literacy and numeracy levels.

The secondary aim of this project is to give you the opportunity to travel and expand your horizons as a teenager. You’ll learn Spanish, which will help you communicate with local people. We’ll also teach you about the culture and traditions through different activities.

Join us in Argentina on our High School Special, and become part of our long-term efforts to give disadvantaged children the support they need.

Cordoba

The city is home to nearly 350,000 people. As you explore with your group and our staff, you’ll see the city has plenty to offer in terms of history, culture, and architecture.

You will work with children in kindergartens and care centres. They will be less developed than the childcare centres you’re used to at home.

Food and accommodation

You’ll stay with a host family in Córdoba. They will welcome you into their home, eager to share their customs and have you teach them about your own culture. We believe that this is the best way to immerse yourself in the culture of Argentina and have a truly unique experience.

We will always try to let you live alongside at least one other Projects Abroad volunteer or intern at the same host family. Your room will be modest, but comfortable, clean, and safe.

Your programme fee includes three meals a day.
