Itinerary

Is this right for me? :
What to Expect

This project is the perfect fit if you enjoy working with kids and want to team up with other people to support a local community. It’s one of our Team Trips, where we run a project on fixed dates so individuals from around the world can come together to form a group. At the same time, you’ll be able to explore an Asian country together. And best of all, you’ll become part of our ongoing efforts to improve early childhood education in Sri Lanka.

You don’t have to worry about organising anything in Sri Lanka, as you’ll follow an itinerary. From the moment you arrive at the airport in Colombo, we’ll plan everything. You’ll have a full schedule of volunteer work, cultural and social activities, and a weekend trip to Kandy. Throughout it all, Projects Abroad staff will be there for you.

You don’t need previous experience to join. You’ll support the work of local staff, and we’ll teach you everything you need to know. A Projects Abroad supervisor will also be there to provide advice and ideas at all times.

This is a great way to actively make a difference, and gain experience for your CV at the same time. It will help you stand out in applications and interviews. This is especially useful if you’re interested in working with children in the future.

Our Childcare & Community Work Team Trip in Sri Lanka runs over fixed dates at different times of the year. You can choose the dates that best fit your schedule.

Working with children :
Aim

The main aim of this project is to bring like-minded people together to meet the needs of underprivileged schools and childcare centres.

In Sri Lanka, the care centres and schools we work with are overcrowded, understaffed and under-resourced. Teachers and caregivers are unable to make sure every child learns all the early childhood skills they need. You’ll support their work by helping the children learn through fun, educational activities.

You’ll also work with your group to improve children’s learning environments. Having a colourful and healthy environment is a great way to inspire creativity and curiosity in children. Everything you do in Sri Lanka has an impact, because its part of our ongoing, long-term efforts to support the communities we work with.

Join us on our Childcare & Community Work Team Trip in Sri Lanka, and experience life there while helping children with their education.

Working with Children :
Typical Day

You and your group will work in several small towns around Colombo, on the coast. Sri Lanka is a gorgeous tropical island that has become a popular tourist destination over the past few years. This is because of its beautiful beaches, mountains, and wildlife reserves, as well as its fascinating history and culture.

You’ll work with your group at care centres, kindergartens, or special needs schools. Most of these placements have limited funding and resources, and conditions are basic.

Food and Accomodation

You’ll stay with a host family in or around Colombo. They will welcome you into their home, eager to share their customs and have you teach them about your own culture. We believe that this is the best way to immerse yourself in the culture of Sri Lanka and have a truly unique experience.

We will always try to let you live alongside at least one other Projects Abroad volunteer or intern at the same host family. Your room will be modest, but comfortable, clean, and safe.

Your program fee includes three meals a day.
