Dentistry Internship :
Aim

The aim of this project is to give you the opportunity to expand your practical knowledge of dentistry. We also work to help disadvantaged people gain better access to basic dental care.

Almost 25% of Nepal’s population lives below the poverty line. With this statistic so high, access to basic healthcare for disadvantaged groups can be a challenge. We work with a private community hospital that aims to provide quality health services at an affordable price for the local community. In addition, we also run outreaches in underprivileged communities. At outreaches, the focus is on raising awareness about the importance of good oral hygiene.

Projects Abroad medical outreaches are free for people that attend.

To ensure that we continue working towards long-term, sustainable outcomes, we have committed to several goals in our Medical Management Plan:

  • Encourage an understanding of medical practices and promote an exchange of medical knowledge
  • Improve hygiene standards
  • Promote awareness of non-communicable diseases
  • Improve access to basic healthcare for disadvantaged groups

Join us on a Dentistry internship in Nepal to kickstart your dental career today.

Dentistry Internship :
Typical Day

A typical work day in Nepal will be from Monday to Friday, with a 5 to 6 hour morning or afternoon shift. This will vary depending on when procedures or outreaches are scheduled.

Each day, you’ll eat breakfast and dinner with your host family. You’ll have lunch at the hospital canteen. Use meal times to chat with your host family, other interns, or hospital staff.

During your shift, you’ll shadow dentists as they treat and speak to patients. We encourage you to take notes, ask questions, and learn as much as you can from the procedures and interactions you see.

You will also take part in regular Projects Abroad outreaches. These are focused on providing disadvantaged or vulnerable people with much-needed dental and medical care.

When you’re not working, spend your free time exploring Nepal with fellow interns. Use this opportunity abroad to learn more about Nepal’s rich culture and natural wonders. Seeking adventure? Go trekking, white water rafting, or enjoy a jungle safari.

Food and Accomodation

Your dentistry work experience will take place in Chitwan. The city is known as being the medical city of Nepal and is home to a number of top-rated medical institutions. Here, you will work in the dental department of a private community hospital. The hospital aims to provide quality health services at an affordable price for the local community.

Most of your time will be spent at your dentistry placement, but free time is yours. You can explore the cultural and tourist side of Nepal during weekends. Plan a souvenir shopping expedition, use a weekend for a trip to the city of Pokhara, or plan to trek the Himalayan mountain range!

You’ll stay with a host family in Nepal. They will welcome you into their home, eager to share their customs and have you teach them about your own culture. We believe that this is the best way to immerse yourself in the culture of Nepal and have a truly unique experience.

We will always try to let you live alongside at least one other Projects Abroad volunteer or intern at the same host family. Your room will be modest, but comfortable, clean, and safe.

Your program fee includes three meals a day.

Leisure activities and free time

When you think of Nepal, the first thing that comes to mind is the majestic Himalayan Mountain Range. This is just one example of the country’s extraordinary natural beauty. Combined with rich cultures, this makes it a unique country to volunteer in and explore.

There are a whole host of ways you can explore the stunning and incredibly varied landscapes of Nepal. You can drive off-road through Chitwan National Park, go biking through Kathmandu Valley, or trek in the foothills of Annapurna.

In the evenings and over weekends, it’s worth taking some time to see the sights in Kathmandu. This includes Durbar Square, where you can stand in the midst of an ancient palace. The towering spectacle of the Boudhanath Stupa is also a must-see.

Nepal is one of our most popular destinations, so there will be many other volunteers in the country with you during your trip. This gives you the freedom to spend your leisure time either exploring alone or in a group.
