Overview

About Volunteers Without Borders: Our vision and goal is to connect international volunteers with opportunities at the lowest cost possible that will provide them with the opportunity to give back to underdeveloped areas of the world that need all the help and support that they can get. Our mission is to recruit international volunteers and present them with international volunteer abroad opportunities to make a difference in developing countries in need. We offer program fees that are substantially lower than majority of other companies.

ISSUES FACING COSTA RICA
Like several other countries in our world, decades of deforestation have left a dramatic path of destruction across parts of Costa Rica and is one of the main problems facing this country. One of the biggest challenges that result of high rates of deforestation is Marine and Wildlife Conservation. It is difficult to create programs that protect both land and ocean mammals and to pressure on the government to have them switch focus to assist with funding for Conservation efforts. One population of species that have declined rapidly is our oceans precious Sea Turtles. Prior to the initiation of this particular program in 2001, it was estimated that 98% of Green Turtles were being killed for their meat and almost every single nest of all three different species of turtles were poached on the beaches in this country.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
If you have a strong desire and are passionate about getting involved in Marine Conservation efforts, then this is the perfect placement for you. On this program, you will become part of a team that’s making leaps and bounds for the sea turtles that arrive on the beaches in this country. Every year, Leather back, Green and Hawks bill turtles come to the beaches of Costa Rica, to lay their eggs from March to October. During this period of time, poachers often try to steal the turtles and their eggs to sell on the black market for profit. As illegal as this practice is in in Costa Rica, it still exists. Poaching is a major factor that contributes to the depletion of the endangered sea turtle populations. It is hard to enforce without the help of the local community’s participation and volunteers like you.

PLEASE NOTE: Volunteers are required to pay a Registration Fee of $225 CAD, which will be added to the program fee.

Weather and Climate

Because of the elevation in Zimbabwe it is unusual for the temperature to rise above 33 °C  / 90 °F, or drop below 7°C / 45 °F. the rainy season is between the months of May to June. During this season, the views of Victoria Falls are obscured by heavy mist. By October, animals are easier to see in the thinning vegetation and they congregate around water holes, but it’s very hot, and Victoria Falls is at its least impressive. The most ideal time to visit this country is between the months of July to September.
