Itinerary

Business Internship :
What to Expect

This project is perfect if you’re an undergraduate student hoping to take your theory-based business knowledge to the next level. If you’re a recent graduate, you’ll also benefit as you’ll gain practical experience before seeking a job.

You should be at least a second-year university student in fields related to business, finance, economics, marketing, or human resources or have a background in these fields.

Business work experience in Mongolia will give you insight into global business practices, boost your resume, and give you the chance to network with professionals.

An internship of this kind also prepares you for the working world and helps you practice the skills needed to be a successful businessperson. You will excel in your internship if you are punctual, professional, and hard-working at your business placement in Mongolia.

Please note that to engage with your colleagues and clients, you should have conversational English skills. You’ll also need to bring your personal laptop with you on the project.

On this Business internship in Mongolia, you can expect to:

  • Gain practical business experience while working alongside professionals
  • Learn about business practices and opportunities within a developing country
  • Lead training and workshops to help local staff at smaller companies

Location :
Typical Day

Working hours are usually between 9am and 6pm, Monday to Friday.

At the start of each day, you’ll eat breakfast with your Mongolian host family, then prepare for your working day. Dressed smartly and with your laptop packed in your bag, you’ll either walk to your placement, or use public transport.

Punctuality and professionalism are important in a Mongolian work space. When you arrive at your placement, you’ll chat with your supervisor about the tasks for that day. Use this time to ask your colleagues questions, and get advice on challenging assignments.

Your work may include a research study you have taken upon yourself or a presentation you’ve been asked to prepare. Tasks will be assigned to you by your supervisor. Write down your questions, ask staff for advice, or join meetings when possible.

Free time and weekends are the perfect time to explore Mongolia’s cultural and historical side. Roam Ulaanbaatar’s streets, spend time with your host family, or plan a weekend trip to visit the nomads and see the vast roaming plains of Mongolia.

Ulaanbaatar

Our Business placements are in Ulaanbaatar, your home city for the duration of your internship in Mongolia.

The capital city, Ulaanbaatar, is the largest in Mongolia, and has become the country’s financial hub. Your time abroad will give you an opportunity to explore the professional and fun side of Mongolia, as you live and work with locals.

You can explore the city during your free time. Visit a Mongolian Buddhist monastery, take a trip out of the city to visit the nomads, or just wander Sükhbaatar Square.

Food and accommodation

You’ll stay with a host family in Ulaanbaatar. They will welcome you into their home, eager to share their customs and have you teach them about your own culture. We believe that this is the best way to immerse yourself in the culture of Mongolia and have a truly unique experience.

We will always try to let you live alongside at least one other Projects Abroad volunteer or intern at the same host family. Your room will be modest, but comfortable, clean, and safe.

Your programme fee includes three meals a day.

Free Time and Leisure Activities

Mongolia is one of the most remote countries in the world. Volunteering here is a chance to experience a completely different way of life.

Our projects are based in Ulaanbaatar, the country’s capital. This city is an eclectic mix of modern and traditional. The Government Palace is a perfect example of this, with it’s old-world style architecture and glowing blue and gold lights.

Even when you’re in the city, you’re never far from the countryside. Just a quick trip can take you out to a nomad settlement, where you can meet travelling families who live in traditional gers. We recommend going on a horse ride or trek to take in the beauty of the endless countryside horizons.

The famous statue of Genghis Khan is a must-see. You can also learn about the country’s history at the National Museum of Mongolia.

We run a range of different projects in Mongolia so there will likely be other volunteers in the country with you. So you can travel alone or explore the country with a group of like-minded new friends.
